Largest Solar Power Project In The Region Inaugurated In Qatar
October 30, 2022
The Al-Kharsaah Solar PV Power Plant (“KSPPP”), the first large-scale photovoltaic power plant in Qatar, and the largest such plant in the region, was recently inaugurated during a ceremony in Al-Kharsaah. The KSPPP covers 10 square kilometres of land, and consists of more than 1.8 million solar panels with a total capacity of 800 megawatts.
The solar panels utilise solar tracking technology to maximise their exposure to the sun during the day. The solar panels also employ robotic arms and treated water to clear any obstructions that might affect their efficiency.
The KSPPP is owned by a joint venture between affiliates of QatarEnergy Renewable Solutions (60%), Marubeni (20.4%) and TotalEnergies (19.6%).
