Mandatory health insurance law to focus on visitors in the first phase

As part of the new health insurance scheme, expat residents and visitors are required to carry health insurance to guarantee basic health services. The health insurance is to be obtained through an insurance provider approved by the Ministry of Public Health (“MoPH“).

According to MoPH, it will follow a gradual approach to implement the health insurance scheme, the first phase of which will include visitors to Qatar. Other requirements and measures will be announced at a later date.

The implementation of the health insurance scheme follows the Cabinet of Ministers approval of the draft executive regulations for the health insurance law No. 22 for 2021, which came into force during the month of May 2022.
