New QICCA Rules To Be Issued
April 27, 2022
As arbitration becomes increasingly prevalent in Qatar, the Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (“QICCA”) announced during the 4th World Conference on International Arbitration that it will issue new rules aligning with the latest international arbitration best practices.
The news rules demonstrate Qatar’s commitment to arbitration as a dispute resolution mechanism and follow Qatar’s accession to the New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards in 2003, its adoption of the new version of the UNICTRAL Rules in 2010, and the promulgation of the Civil and Commercial Arbitration Law (Law No. 2 of 2017) in 2017. The new rules are designed to make arbitration more attractive as government entities increasingly include arbitration clauses in their contracts.
