Qatar’s General Tax Authority introduces new simplified tax returns for Qatari companies

April 28, 2021

Qatar’s General Tax Authority (“GTA”) recently issued Circular No. 2 of 2021 introducing a simplified tax return for companies and permanent establishments that are owned by Qatari and GCC citizens, that are exempt from tax, that have a share capital of less than QR 1 million, and whose annual revenue is less than QR 5 million.

All other companies, including companies owned by Qatari and GCC citizens that do not qualify for the simplified return, must submit their returns and audited financial statements using the approved tax return form.

To facilitate the transition to the new system, companies owned by Qatari and GCC citizens have been granted a 4 month extension in order to file their tax returns for the fiscal year ending on December 31, 2020.

Tax returns, simplified or otherwise, and any financial accounting statements must be submitted through the Dhareeba tax portal (www.dhareeba.gov.qa).
