May 31, 2022
The Council of Ministers approved a draft resolution regulating health care services within Qatar. The draft resolution provides that Qatari citizens will receive free healthcare services at government health facilities.
The draft resolution also mandates expats, whether residents or visitors, to maintain health insurance. The compulsory health insurance scheme includes non-Qatari workers in the public and private sectors, including domestic workers. The resolution requires employers to procure health insurance to cover basic health services for their employees. Basic healthcare services include emergency and accident treatment services.
The resolution requires insurance companies to provide employers with health insurance cards and a list of hospitals and clinics they can call on.
