Qatar Council of Ministers Approves Draft Law Regulating Private Schools

The Qatari Council of Ministers has approved a draft law aimed at modernising the regulatory framework governing private schools across the country, marking a significant step in the ongoing development of Qatar’s education sector. The proposed legislation was prepared by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and is intended to strengthen governance standards and enhance the quality of private education at all levels.

The draft law was approved during the Council’s regular weekly meeting. The legislation aligns with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 and Qatar’s broader national education strategy, both of which seek to promote high-quality education and support the development of a knowledge-based economy.

As part of the legislative process, the Council decided to publish the draft law on the government’s “Sharek” platform, operated by the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau, to invite public feedback before the legislation is formally referred for legislative review.

The move reflects Qatar’s continued emphasis on education reform and regulatory enhancement in a sector that has experienced substantial growth in recent years, particularly with the expansion of international and private educational institutions. The proposed law is expected to introduce updated governance mechanisms, reinforce compliance standards, and improve oversight of private schools operating in the State.
